Vueling Flight Delayed or Cancelled? How to Claim Compensation

Vueling flight delayed 3+ hours or cancelled from the UK to Spain? You could be owed up to £520 per passenger. Here is how Vueling compensation claims work.

Vueling operates a large network of routes between the UK and Spain, with Barcelona as its main hub. Spain has also been one of the countries most affected by the wave of air traffic control strikes in summer 2026, which has meant more disruption than usual for Vueling passengers. If your flight arrived 3 or more hours late or was cancelled, you could be owed up to £520 per passenger under UK261 (or EU261, if your flight departed from Spain).

How much can you claim from Vueling?

  • £220 / €250 for flights under 1,500km (most UK-Spain routes, e.g. London to Barcelona, Manchester to Alicante)
  • £350 / €400 for flights between 1,500km and 3,500km
  • £520 / €600 for flights over 3,500km delayed 4+ hours

Most direct UK-Spain Vueling routes fall in the £220 bracket on their own, but if a delay causes you to miss a connecting Vueling flight through Barcelona to a longer-haul destination, your compensation is based on the delay at your final destination, which can push you into a higher bracket.

Was your delay caused by a strike?

Given the scale of ATC disruption in Spain and France this year, many Vueling delays and cancellations in 2026 have been linked to third-party air traffic control strikes rather than anything Vueling did directly. This matters: a genuine third-party ATC strike can be a valid extraordinary circumstance, but Vueling still has to show it gave you reasonable notice and offered a proper alternative, rather than just cancelling and leaving you to sort it out. Don't assume "there was a strike" is automatically the end of your claim; check whether Vueling actually met its obligations around notice and rebooking.

What doesn't count as an excuse

  • Technical faults with the aircraft
  • Crew scheduling or staff shortages within Vueling itself
  • The aircraft arriving late from an earlier rotation
  • A vague reference to "operational reasons" with no specific cause given

How far back can you claim?

Up to 6 years for flights departing UK airports (5 years in Scotland), or per the relevant statute of limitations for flights departing Spain under EU261. An old Vueling delay from a previous holiday may still be worth checking.
