Business Class Flight Delayed? Compensation Is the Same

Flying business or first class doesn't change your UK261 compensation amount. Here's why cabin class doesn't matter and what to check instead.

A common misconception is that business or first class passengers are entitled to more compensation than economy passengers. Under UK261, that's not true.

Compensation is based on distance, not cabin

UK261 compensation is fixed by flight distance, not ticket price or cabin class:

  • £220 under 1,500km
  • £350 for 1,500-3,500km
  • £520 over 3,500km

A business class passenger and an economy passenger on the same delayed flight are entitled to the exact same compensation amount.

Where cabin class does matter

If you were downgraded from business to economy, you may be entitled to separate compensation for the downgrade itself (typically a percentage of the ticket price), on top of any delay or cancellation compensation.
