KLM Flight Delayed or Cancelled? How to Claim Compensation
KLM flight delayed 3+ hours or cancelled? You could be owed up to £520 under UK261/EU261. Here's how to claim.
If your KLM flight to or from the UK was delayed by 3 or more hours, or cancelled, you may be entitled to up to £520 in compensation under UK261 and EU261 rules.
Does KLM have to pay compensation?
Yes. KLM flights departing the UK, or departing the EU (including via Amsterdam Schiphol) bound for the UK, are covered. The same applies in reverse for EU-bound KLM flights.
How much can you claim?
- £220 for flights under 1,500km delayed 3+ hours
- £350 for flights between 1,500km and 3,500km delayed 3+ hours
- £520 for flights over 3,500km delayed 4+ hours
Common KLM excuses
KLM often cites "operational reasons" or crew scheduling for delays. These are not extraordinary circumstances and do not exempt them from paying. Genuine extraordinary circumstances (severe weather, ATC strikes, security incidents) are the only valid exemption.
How far back can you claim?
Up to 6 years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or 5 years in Scotland, for flights connecting through Amsterdam or direct to/from the UK.
How to claim
Klaimly verifies your KLM flight against real flight data and handles the entire claim for a flat 5% fee, only if we win. Submit your flight number, date, and booking reference and we'll take it from there.
