What about connecting flights?
Many Qatar Airways journeys route through Doha on a single booking. If your first leg departed the UK late and that delay caused you to reach your final destination 3+ hours behind schedule, your whole itinerary is generally treated as one flight for compensation purposes, even though the disruption started on the UK departure. The distance used to calculate the amount is measured from the UK to your final destination.
How much can you claim?
- £220 for flights under 1,500km delayed 3+ hours
- £350 for flights 1,500-3,500km delayed 3+ hours
- £520 for flights over 3,500km delayed 4+ hours
Most Qatar Airways routes from the UK are long-haul, so the over 3,500km band and the 4-hour threshold usually apply, meaning up to £520 per passenger.
Extraordinary circumstances
Qatar Airways can refuse compensation if the disruption was genuinely outside its control, such as severe weather, air traffic control restrictions or a security alert. Technical faults, crew shortages and aircraft rotation problems are not valid exemptions, and the airline has to prove the reason it gives.
How far back can you claim?
You have 6 years to bring a claim in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 5 years in Scotland, so past Qatar Airways delays from your UK departures may still qualify.
